Coherent Data Collection Efforts in Support of Phalanx

he Applied Physics Laboratory, in its role as Technical Direction Agent for the Phalanx close-in weapon system radar, designed and operates a coherent data collector to analyze radar system performance. This article presents examples of how coherent data analysis has helped program development efforts and provided insights into the performance of the Phalanx search radar. The topics discussed include radar system dynamic range, subclutter visibility, aircraft characteristics, surface target detectability, electromagnetic interference investigations, and radar environmental studies.
